Without under-emphasizing the utter clusterfuck we find ourselves in, it’s worth remembering that all huge surges of progress have filled gaps; and the gap between what we are and what we must become to continue civilization on this planet is the largest humanity’s ever faced.
A person might bet against humanity in this situation, but who’d pay out? What do you win by doing so, other than a smug cynicism?
If we instead see the torque created by our sustainability gap as pent-up energy, big things (some potentially very good) look possible. Always worth working hard to be part of something huge and great for the world. The future may yet shine. Bet on humanity. (But keep a go bag under your desk.)
